Jury verdict awards $10.4 million in compensation

Every day, hundreds of Maryland residents undergo surgical procedures. The majority of those patients' surgeries are successful. However, in some instances, patients leave the hospitals in worse conditions than they entered due to surgical errors. In one out-of-state case, a jury recently awarded a patient $10.4 million in compensation for the injuries he suffered while recovering from a surgery performed in 2007.

Legal resources after traumatic brain injuries

Going through any medical procedure is a trying and stressful time. Whether it's you or a loved one there is emotional exhaustion. A hospital stay requires relying on the care and expertise of the hospital and medical professionals. When your care is marred by error the consequences can be varied and serious. A traumatic brain injury is just one possible result from failure to properly diagnose, prevent an infection, improper administration of anesthesia or insufficient oxygen during surgery.

There may be compensatory support available for your baby

Every year in Maryland, a huge number of families welcome new babies into their lives. This is a joyful experience and the start of a happy chapter of most parents' lives. However, it is a sad fact that these happy memories can sometimes be tarnished by medical negligence, leaving newborns with serious injuries or even permanent disabilities. Furthermore, the effects of medical malpractice are not always immediately apparent, so the affected children may not immediately receive treatment for the harm they have suffered.

What is a conspiracy of silence?

When you are awaiting surgery, any number of concerns can go through your mind. Even though you know that everything is likely to go smoothly and there is no reason for there to be any kind of complication, you can still worry that something might go wrong. Sadly, such fears are confirmed for all too many people in Maryland each year, as they suffer the consequences of negligence, surgical errors or other forms of medical malpractice.
