Your doctor may be willing to work with you to resolve an error

As many residents of Maryland know, it can be extremely distressing when you discover that your doctor has made a mistake. Not only can the error itself cause you significant problems and even exacerbate your condition, but the issue can also make it hard to trust your doctor in the future. It is often hard to know what to do when confronted with medical malpractice, but making the right choices can significantly improve your chances of resolving the situation.

One of the first things to do if you suspect that your doctor has made a mistake is to get in touch with him or her. Explain your concerns and ask for their clarification. They may be able to put your mind at ease or, if they have done something wrong, they might be able to suggest a resolution to the problem. You are also within your rights to seek a second opinion if you are still unsure.

If you plan to file a malpractice claim, there is a limited window during which you can do so. As this article on doctor errors explains, this is known as a statute of limitations. If you wait too long, you may not be able to claim, no matter how legitimate your concern might be. As soon as you know there is a problem, it is wise to start recording as many details as possible about your case and considering taking action.

Fortunately, you do not need to navigate the legal process alone. An attorney can explain your options to you and may be able to guide you through the relevant proceedings and assist you with making your claim.
