Maryland patient waits 35 years for treatment

As most patients in Maryland know, it can be exhausting living with a medical condition, especially when it feels like your treatment is going nowhere. While many of Maryland's physicians work hard to give their patients the best possible care, not every patient receives the attention and treatment they require. All too often, patients are left with misdiagnosed or undiagnosed conditions that continue to get worse as time goes on.

One surgeon recalls an appointment from 2014 in the University of Maryland Medical Center. The thing that was particularly unique about the appointment was that the patient had a single finger that was stuck up against his will. Furthermore, he believed he knew the reason, despite having lived with the condition for 35 years.

He had read about a previous patient of the same physician who had lived with a similar problem for seven years before finally being diagnosed with a rare form of tumor. She had endured unnecessary neck surgeries, seen several specialists and even considered chopping off the painful digit. Remarkably, the new patient was suffering from the same issue. Soon after, the physician removed the tumor and the patient's 35 years of pain came to an end.

Cases like this are an extreme example of the longterm suffering caused by failed diagnoses. Even so, any amount of time spent unnecessarily enduring a treatable condition is something no one should have to go through. If you feel that you have been failed by your doctors, you might benefit from the advice of an attorney. He or she can evaluate your case and may be able to help you pursue the compensation you deserve.
