Family sues hospital over teen's brain damage

Undergoing surgery can often be a worrying experience. The thought of being under anesthetic and unable to react can be a daunting one, especially once you realize that you are placing your life in the hands of strangers. Fortunately, the medical professionals of Maryland are usually fantastic, as is the case throughout the United States. However, a simple mistake can have devastating consequences and all too often patients' lives are turned upside down by these errors.

Such was the case for one young girl in California who suffered brain damage as the result of miscommunication while she was in hospital care. At 14 years old, she is still required to remain on a ventilator. Meanwhile, her family is taking legal action against the hospital and the surgeon involved in the procedure.

According to the case, the doctor in question failed to pass on vital information about the young girl's condition to nurses following an operation on her tonsils and adenoids. Although the surgery should have been routine, the girl's predisposition to heavy bleeding resulted in a hemorrhage. Nurses, unaware of what was happening, failed to react appropriately and the girl went into cardiac arrest.

This tragic event may have happened in another state, but similar issues arise all too often in Maryland. If you or a loved one have been harmed by a surgeon's negligence, you may benefit from the guidance of an attorney. He or she can evaluate your case and may be able to assist you with seeking justice and remuneration from the medical professionals who have harmed you.
