Maryland toddler suffers brain injury in tragic accident

A brain injury is a very serious matter and can affect the victim for life. This is bad enough for an adult who then has to relearn lost skills and adapt to being what may be an entirely different person. The effects of a brain injury can range from loss of motor skills to reduced memory to an inability to do everyday things such as speak, eat or walk. But what happens when the victim is a child with his or her whole life ahead?

In Maryland, one family learned this the worst way possible, when a 2-year-old boy strayed into the path of an oncoming car. The toddler was struck by the side-view mirror of the vehicle and later airlifted to a hospital. He suffered brain damage as a result of the accident and the injury has affected him significantly.

After eight months shared between a hospital and center for rehabilitation, the child had still not returned to his former self. His vocabulary has become limited to just a few words and he even has difficulty walking. Although he attends physical rehab twice each week, it is impossible to determine how much he will be able to regain.

Sadly, tragic incidents like this are not uncommon and countless children and adults suffer life-changing injuries every year in Maryland. If this happens to you, or someone close to you, you may wonder what to do next. An attorney might have the advice you need. He or she can evaluate your situation and may be able to guide you through the process of seeking compensation or an insurance payout for your injuries.
