Patient wins $2.3 million in malpractice case

When you are feeling unwell, there is a good chance that you simply want to submit yourself to the care of medical professionals and let their expertise set you on the path to recovery. Often, this is exactly what happens. Many of Maryland's doctors and nurses are attentive and good at their jobs. However, once in a while patients are not so lucky. Unfortunately this often means they are subjected to medical malpractice that has a lasting effect on their well-being.

In New York state, a 52-year-old man has been awarded $2.3 million after failed treatment left him irremediably harmed. He can no longer work in construction as he did previously and cannot enjoy the activities he was used to participating in. It all started when he was sent for an MRI in 2010. He was given an injection and it is this that is suspected to have been responsible for the infection that was to change his life permanently.

Days later, he went to Nyack Hospital where he had a culture test. According to the lawsuit, test results demonstrated the presence of a serious bacterial infection. This should have been enough to warrant immediate treatment. Nevertheless, he was allegedly released after a visit of only 25 minutes. Two days later, he was rushed back into the hospital in the early hours of the morning, but it was too late.

Although it happened in another state, patients in Maryland can sympathize with this man and imagine the strain suffering such irreparable damage must cause. Negligent medical professionals must be held responsible for their actions so events like this can be prevented from happening to others.

If you are harmed because a doctor misdiagnosed or failed to diagnose you, you may be able to claim compensation. An attorney can advise you of your options and help you to decide the best course of action to take.
